The City of Stockton is in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, just 90 miles east of San Francisco, and offers a plentitude of cultural and recreational opportunities. Area orchards and farmland produce a rich and abundant variety of vegetables, fruits, and nuts. The San Joaquin River offers recreational boating, fishing, water-skiing, and sailing.
Sports fans can enjoy the exploits of the Stockton Ports, a semi-professional baseball team, Stockton Thunder, a local hockey team, and Stockton Lightning, the arena football team, as well as the Stockton 99 Speedway and the Delta Raceway.
Stockton is also home to a thriving cultural community, including an annual festival, sponsored by the Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific, that honors jazz legend Dave Brubeck. In addition, fine performances are offered by the Stockton Symphony, California’s third oldest continuously performing orchestra, the Stockton Civic Theatre, the Stockton Chorale, and the Stockton Opera Association. The San Joaquin International Film Festival provides films and educational programs, and a variety of other cultural, educational and agricultural festivals are held throughout the year.
